Exhibitor bookings over 50% up on last year show already, with many new exhibitors and attractions.

We welcome the new exhibitors, thank our existing exhibitors for their continuing support and invite you to join us.

This year’s show will retain all that we have previously enjoyed with a bit more, actually a lot more, just some of the additional features along with a lot more space both on land and water we have to look forward to are:

HMS Kent a type 23 frigate, berthed at Portland Port and open days with ships tours exclusively to MarineEx exhibitors and visitors on days, last tour leaves at 3pm, tour of the ship will be 1 to 1.5 hours, depends on how crowded the ship is.

Due to restrictions in the Port we have to deliver visitors by courtesy coach which is kindly sponsored by Weyline 777 777 Taxis who will run a shuttle service from the entrance to Portland Marina. (Please do not go directly to the port as you will not get in!)

We have The Band of the Royal Marines performing Beat the Retreat @17.00 on Saturday and 16.00 on Sunday, also form the RM will be a Jazz Quartet playing 3 sets during each day.

Also performing will be the contemporary dance group Gravity Angels, they and the Jazz will be performing by the entrance to the Portland Marina pontoon, plus some more events which will be confirmed. Enjoy the offerings from the onsite restaurant and bar “The Boat That Rocks” while the entertainment is on.

There will be many boats on our pontoon available for demonstration and short trips for the public, everything from kayaks to a 10m sailing yacht, ThunderCat to RIB’s and Motor Yachts, a few spaces still available, no additional cost as berthing is included in stand fee.

There will be a lot of activity at both venues (for those not familiar with the area, they are adjacent so there is no travelling necessary between venues) at The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy along with tours of the facility & several exhibitors there is a regatta going on plus as there are no international sailing events on we expect many world class sailors to take the opportunity and will be there training including our own Team GBR.

Key benefits are free admission and free parking for approx 2,000 cars, with a lot to see and do for a family day out and expected as in previous years good business obtained for exhibitors.

Please take a look at www.wpmd.co.uk for the latest information and stand availability, the opportunity still exists for your business to be part of this great festival - please call me on 01 305 823586 to discuss your options.

The decision to move the show looks to be a very good one.

With 3 great shows under their belt the decision to move from the Weymouth Harbour side to Osprey Quay was a difficult one to make for the organisers but with stand bookings up by 50% on 2009 it looks like being the right one.

Show organiser for Osprey Marking John Moyce said ” In some ways it was a difficult decision in others it was really something that had to be done if the show was going to continue to grow and offer our exhibitors and visitors the event they all wanted.

As we had great support from the Harbour team in Weymouth and with the Seafood Show & The Maritime Modelling Festival on the same weekend we knew we would attract a good audience.
Moving to Osprey Quay the doubt was if the exhibitors would still book and could we get the visitors there. Well the exhibitors have certainly voted with their commitment on stand bookings along with the number of activities we will have both on land and on the water.”

Moving MarineEx to the first week of “Spirit of the Sea” which combined with the festival organisers making this, the first weekend of Spirit a Portland Events Weekend gives the opportunity to deliver two great weekends of family entertainment to the area’s residents and visitors and an ideal platform to promote the events on during the week.

With the new show area taking in Portland Marina & The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy there is ample space to develop the show into a major event building up to 2012 and beyond.

By having a large free parking area available and with free admission it will be a great day out for all the family with plenty to do and see so a healthy number of visitors are expected but with such a large area it will not become too crowded that it spoils the enjoyment.

A key feature and one that is attracting a lot of interest and one of the core reasons for the move is “Try-A-Boat” something the organisers could not do in the harbour. Thanks to Dean & Redyhoff the Portland Marina owners making a large pontoon area available keen boaters will have the chance to try variety of different craft and those wondering if “boating” is something for them the ideal opportunity of trying the many options and finding out all about it in a very friendly relaxed atmosphere.

With July being a quiet time in the International sailing calendar many competitors are expected to take this time for some practise at the Sailing Academy. This will be a great way for visitors to understand a lot more about the different classes that will be racing in 2012 and may even be able to get to see who will be likely to be in “our team”

Dates for your diary are July 3rd & 4th Portland Marina & WPNSA, Osprey Quay, Portland, Dorset.
More information on stand availability and sponsorship opportunities can be found on www.wpmd.co.uk. Check the website regularly for the latest information.

MarineEx is organised for Weymouth & Portland Marine Directory and Dorset Marine Network by Osprey Marketing Ltd and is part of Weymouth & Portland’s Spirit of the Sea Maritime Festival

As you can see from the logo we have extended the show to include the leisure element, this has been as a result of requests to exhibit from companies and to ensure we have visitors new to boating requested by some exhibitors.

The other major change is location, we have moved the show to Portland Marina for the main part and included The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy who will have the dinghy and wind surfing equipment on their ground.

The move was necessary to meet the increased demand for stands, bigger stands and primarily to be able to offer good quality berthing for boats on show. At Portland Marina with have over 200m of “Med Style” berthing available.

We will be able to offer “Try-A-Boat” to the public and at present we have several boats available from a small sailing boat to a large yacht, a R.I.B. and a good sized motor yacht - more needed, so if you want to include your boats please show them on the booking form.

We have arranged with our marquee supplier to supply 6m x 6m marquees for the same price as last years 6 x 3’s which we have passed on to give our exhibitors more space for the same money.

For the 3 x 3 marquees we are putting up 2 15 X 9 marquees and dividing them up, this has allowed us to reduce the price for exhibitors requiring this size and will give a good show hall atmosphere.

I hope you agree that these major changes have all been taken to give the exhibitor a better show ground and the visitor a better experience and the opportunity to stay longer and enjoy more exhibits.

We have extensive marketing plans and intend to have a band and a BBQ to make it a great event going on into the evening.

Please follow the link to www.wpmd.co.uk MarineEx to see the latest information, Show Layout & Booking Forms

Please call me with any questions you have or to make initial reservations or to discuss the many sponsorship opportunities.

Another big plus is we have excellent exhibitor parking facilities and extensive free public parking on site.

We sincerely hope you join us for 2010 and the build up to 2012.

Show organiser, John Moyce said, “We have had three great shows on the harbour side in Weymouth but the show has now grown beyond what can be run effectively in this location.

Moving gives us far greater space to develop the land based exhibits in both sectors along with extensive pontoon facilities to increase our new & used boat displays. The move also gives us a large free car park.

We are also delighted that Lloyds TSB will continue in their role as a principal supporter of the show and are fully supportive of the shows extended guise.

There will be a lot of new features for 2010 including “Try-a-Boat”. We will have a wide range of boats on the water from dinghy sailing to keel boats, R.I.B.’s and several motor yachts with experienced crews for visitors to go out on the water.

“Try-a-Boat” has been found to give people new to boating and keen to find out about the hobby an ideal introduction and the opportunity of trying other forms of craft with experienced boaters.

We will have trainers on hand, who can help with all experience levels from novice to international race standard and members from cruising associations who can inform our guests on this popular side of boating.

We have had several enquiries from businesses in the leisure sector to exhibit at MarineEx. Previously space limitations prevented this, now with the space we have we can extend the show to include exhibitors showing cars, caravans, walking, camping, climbing, lifestyle products etc. while maintaining the enjoyable feel of previous shows.

Combining the grounds of Portland Marina with those of the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy gives us the scope to turn this show into a major national and international event.

MarineEx 2009 a great Success

Despite the economic situation or maybe because of it this year’s show was busier than ever with great responses from exhibitors. Even Saturdays drizzle could not dampen down the mood, ok 4pm downpour did put the show to bed early but not before some good business had been done.

The new Sea Safety & Security Area proved a big hit with visitors with over 400 brave souls enjoying the R.N.L.I. simulator and Police Sergeant Nikki Billington enjoyed showing around 300 children around the Police RIB while many parents signed up to the new Police initiative “ Kraken - if you suspect it, report it”

Quick change of gazebo on Sunday morning after Saturday nights force 8 went up the harbour and wrecked the original and the Maritime Coastguard Agency was back in business offering their good advice to all who use the coastline and the sea.
New exhibitors, Marine Ventures (Jeanneau dealers) Innotec Marine & Rob Perry (Honda) all reported good business and will be returning in 2010.

3 times exhibitors Dean & Redyhoff took the opportunity of announcing the opening of their new bar and restaurant “The Boat That Rocked” in the very impressive Portland Marina. The other marina buildings are progressing and will soon be ready for occupation – well worth a visit by land or sea. If you don’t own a boat take the White Motor Boats ferry from Weymouth Harbour

Mechanical Services reported an excellent show with seeing many existing customers and impressing many new potentials, their show neighbours Sunseeker had very successful time imparting info on their Osprey Quay development, discussing job opportunities that will be coming up and running their charity prize raffle – I won a Sunseeker shirt just need to win the boat now!

Another exhibitor attracting a lot of attention was Whitehorse Leadership with their examples of many knots and the opportunity to have a go by following their guide sheets.

Event supporter Lloyds TSB Commercial took the opportunity of meeting many existing customers in their marquee and passing on info to several potential new and found the show an excellent way of communicating their business.
MarineEx 2009 was part of Weymouth & Portland’s 9 day festival “Spirit of the Sea”

Plans are well under way for next year’s show on July 10th & 11th which is forecast to grow and capitalise on this year’s successes.

John Moyce owner of Weymouth & Portland Marine Directory organisers of the show has confirmed that the tier one 2012 Olympic sponsor Lloyds TSB has become a partner for this year’s show with options to continue to 2012.

The show will be known as “MarineEx 2009 supported by Lloyds TSB” with Lloyds TSB taking an active part in promoting the show through their branches throughout the South & South West, they also will be having a hospitality marquee at the show. Other combined marketing is currently being planned.

“Having a global brand and an Olympic sponsor on board can only help to raise the events profile, unfortunately the restrictions on the 2012 logo uses - Lloyds TSB can only use the logo on their own material and not with a third party as we would be – but we will be expecting to see it utilised on their marquee at the event.”

Lloyds TSB’s Jeremy Weekes the local Relationship Manger who arranged the connection sees the event and build up as an ideal way to promote the banks services to existing and potential business clients.

Many further sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels for any company who want to be associated with the show and take advantage of the extensive exposure that is being generated.

Most of last year’s exhibitors have said they are coming back along with several new businesses, it is looking like “MarineEx 2009 supported by Lloyds TSB” will be even more successful than the previous two shows.
